Healing Survivors
A survivor’s truth. A mother’s strength. A woman’s rebuilding.
Healing after tragedy is not a straight path. It is a climb — sometimes slow, sometimes painful, sometimes impossible to explain. It is waking up in a world that no longer looks like the one you knew, and learning how to breathe again, think again, trust again, and live again.
This page is for every survivor who has ever wondered how to keep going. It is for those who have lived through the unthinkable and still rise. It is for those who carry memories that changed their lives forever.
A message of strength, clarity, and encouragement for those rebuilding their lives.
Healing after trauma is a deeply personal journey. Every survivor’s path is different, and every survivor deserves support that honors their truth. In the early years after my tragedy, I received professional counseling for approximately four months. It helped me in one meaningful way: my counselor encouraged me to continue journaling — something I had already done throughout my life. Writing became a lifeline, a way to hold on to my thoughts, my memories, and my ability to function.
I chose to attend counseling so that my counselor would know me, in case I ever regressed into a crisis. That was the purpose it served in my life.
After appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Show, I realized that traditional counseling was not the right path for me. My healing came through lived experience, advocacy, speaking out, and rebuilding my life piece by piece.
Your path may be different — and that is okay. What matters is that you receive the support that is right for you.
This page is a place of encouragement — a reminder that healing is possible, and that seeking professional help is a strong and courageous choice.
My role is not to provide counseling. My role is to speak, to educate, and to share what surviving has taught me about resilience, hope, and rebuilding a life after devastation.
